Project Spotlight: La Peer Hotel West Hollywood

The Kimpton Hotels started out as the first boutique hotel and restaurant company in the U.S. opening its first hotel in the bustling and picturesque city of San Francisco. Owner Bill Kimpton wanted to start a hotel that was luxury mixed with an at-home feel, selecting stylish and personal touches to the décor and vibe. When the Kimpton Hotels looked to build the La Peer Hotel in West Hollywood, CA, it was the city’s first hotel in the Design District and so the design and though behind the hotel was something the community could be proud of, which is why they chose principal designer Gulla Jónsdóttir.

Gulla Jónsdóttir Architecture and Design creates unexpected and poetic modern architecture and interior spaces. Icelandic born, Gulla Jónsdóttir studied architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and went on to create her very own LA based design studio that emulates a holistic style for commercial, residential and hospitality projects.

When choosing the light fixtures for the hotel’s hallways, Jónsdóttir opted for the The Grand Nuage by Designheure. The Nuage’s lightness and its adaptability makes it the bestseller of the Designheure’s collections. Simplicity and pure lines for this timeless collection. The triangular shade produces a very particular light, cutting the space in architecture.

Grand Nuage Spec Sheet

We intended for the hotel to feel residential in look and feel infused with art and artistic touches throughout. The grand light fixture [by Designheure] is a focal point in the walkway towards the drawing room and boardroom and as we have very high ceilings we could allow ourselves to be more playful and elegant than a normal hallway would be. The elegance and chicness of this fixture was the perfect touch for the hotel which is located in the design district of West Hollywood and every item was carefully selected for its unique design. – GULLA JÓNSDÓTTIR
